Within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Vatnajökull National Park you will experience Iceland’s largest glaciers, highest mountains, and of course the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where massive icebergs float around this stunning lagoon and wash up on the black sand shores of Diamond Beach. You will explore the depths of one of Iceland’s biggest ice caves, and give you time to really take in the blues and textures of the cave. Join us for two days you will not forget!
First stops on this tour are the impressive Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls, as well as the Black Sand Beach and basalt columns at Reynisfjara. From here we visit Fjaðrárgljúfur* and walk along the ridges of the feather like gorge. You get up close and personal to the astonishingly beautiful ice formations of an outlet glacier of the enormous Vatnajökull Icecap. The blues, textures, light and colours of the natural glacier ice caves will leave you in awe.
You will be mesmerised by the giant icebergs floating around the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. If you are lucky you will be able to spot some curious seals swimming around the lagoon, as well as large crystals of ice from the same lagoon washed up on the nearby Diamond Beach, sparkling on the black sand. You will also be able to explore endless moss covered lava fields from the devastating Laki eruption and be in awe of the incredible Fjaðrárgljúfur gorge.
During the dark nights of winter months there’s a chance you’ll be able to see the northern lights dancing across the sky from right outside of our accommodation. This tour includes accommodation and a delicious buffet breakfast at the comfortable Lilja Guesthouse (or Hotel Hali in December & January), which has modern rooms and private bathrooms. You will rest easy, all ready for another day exploring this amazing part of Iceland.
On our way back to Reykjavík we will stop for dinner, before arriving back in Reykjavik around 10:30pm.
