Want to explore the entire south coast of Iceland, witnessing Iceland’s largest glacier and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, whilst still having time to hike to and explore the stunning beauty of one of Iceland’s most spectacular ice caves. Then our Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon & Ice Cave Discovery two day tour is the perfect option.
The south eastern corner of the country has some of the most stunning sights, including Iceland’s largest glacier and highest mountains, and of course Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where massive icebergs float around this stunning lagoon and wash up on the black sand shores of Diamond Beach. You will also get to explore the depths of one of Iceland’s biggest ice caves, hiking across the glacier to get to one of Iceland’s more remote ice caves, giving you time to really take in and photograph the incredible blues of the ice. Joining a longer ice cave tour allows us time to reach a more remote cave, which is less busy and better for photography than many of the shorter and easier accessed ice cave tours. Join us for two days you will not forget.
First stops on this tour are the impressive Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls, as well as the Black Sand Beach and basalt columns at Reynisfjara. You get up close and personal to the astonishingly beautiful ice formations of an outlet glacier of the enormous Vatnajökull Icecap, hiking across the glacier to get to the massive ice caves that we will explore and photograph. The textures, light and colours will leave you in awe.
You will be mesmerised by the giant icebergs floating around the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. If you are lucky you will be able to spot some curious seals swimming around the lagoon, as well as large crystals of ice from the same lagoon washed up on the nearby Diamond Beach, sparkling on the black sand. You will also be able to explore endless moss covered lava fields from the devastating Laki eruption and be in awe of the incredible Fjaðrárgljúfur gorge.
During the dark nights of winter months there’s a chance you’ll be able to see the northern lights dancing across the sky from right outside of our accommodation. This tour includes accommodation and a delicious buffet breakfast at the comfortable Lilja Guesthouse (or Hotel Hali in December & January), which has modern rooms and private bathrooms. You will rest easy, all ready for another day exploring this amazing part of Iceland.
On our way back to Reykjavík we will stop for dinner, before arriving back in Reykjavik around 10:30pm.
